This is the place where the health centered treatment concept meets digital technology
What makes a dental/orthodontic laboratory a reasonable choice? Technology, professional experience, clinical support and customer service. We are familiar how difficult it is to start a new technique and implement this in daily patient care. Our mission is to provide appliances and education to support you to achieve your expectations and treat your patient at the highest level.
HermannOrtho Laboratory started to operate in 2008 to make lingual orthodontic appliances. That time Dr Hermann used straight wire lingual appliances besides custom made lingual appliances. In 2013 the main activity of the laboratory became digital aligners. Dr Hermann developed MyClearBrace his own digital aligner service and this was the time when the lab started to serve external customers. Around the same time besides digital aligners the laboratory also started to make ALF appliances. Over the years as soon as Dr Hermann developed his concept of craniofacial functional medicine and health centered functional orthodontics he also started to experimentally modify the ALF appliance.
This is how he developed the concept of CrossoverALF. In 2020 as Dr Hermann finished practicing conventional and cosmetic orthodontics the laboratory also finished producing digital aligners. The digital know-how however has been successfully converted to the production of fully digital dental sleep devices and to digital additions to CrossoverALF.
The laboratory is functionally integrated with Dr Hermann’s orthodontic and sleep dental practice so the lab and the clinic continuously improves the appliances according to the clinical experience and product development. The laboratory is fully equipped with the latest CAD-CAM designer softwares and 3D printers. The manual part of the production of ALF appliances is made by experienced dental technicians that have been working with this appliance family for 10 years. The lab has gained a long experience in customer service, and operates a task management system to control the processes.
Crossover ALF (modified Alternative Lightwire Functionals by dr Hermann)
ALF appliance was invented by Darick Nordstrom in the USA in the 80s. Dr Nordstrom has taught his technique and extremely precious and holistic application of ALF to many dentists and orthodontists all over the World.
What made Dr Hermann modify this appliance family is the fact that many patients and families despite their affection to health oriented treatments would like to see a nice smile as soon as possible. Consequently the concept behind the modified ALF is to achieve a nice smile, broad dental arch in a relatively short period of time and with relatively small amount of compliance and preserve the patient’s collaboration capacity to functional treatment and exercises.
Besides the appliance Dr Hermann also designed his approach in interdisciplinary teamwork.
Once we see the big picture and we are aware of the treatment objective (Health) we will be able to define the sub-objectives for each participating specialty and define the overall treatment plan and consequently we will be able to orchestrate the team treatment.
What makes Crossover ALF unique is its versatile application. CrossOver ALF can be used for structural orthodontic treatment as well as for health centered functional orthodontic treatments. The appliances are bonded, they can be activated intra-orally, they are very comfortable, compatible with orofacial myofunctional training and yet fulfill very effectively the dental/orthodontic and orthopedic goals.

Potential applications of Crossover ALF appliances
Early treatments
- Dental arch development, correction of crossbites
- Opening spaces for permanent teeth
- Habit correction (thumb sucking, finger biting, pacifier use)
- Correction of mandibular asymmetries
- Correction of ClassII
- Correction of ClassIII
Adolescent treatments
- Supporting fixed braces in dental arch development, correction of crossbites

While the academic debate whether we should treat kids early, or not still on, there is a growing number of orthodontists, dentists, who understand that changing the morphology of dental arches and jaw positions is absolutely necessary.
They understand that the altered morphology is not a genetic characteristic, but the altered structure that is a result of an altered function of the environmental tissues. In order to change (and retain) the structures we need appliances that not only meet the requirement of the functional aspects (non-extraction, arch development and jaw development, repositioning) but also support the funcional treatment by its size and its applied forces.
In addition to this the best appliances possible will be the one that requires the least amount of patient compliance. There are several appliances that anyhow meet these requirements, however, there are few that also work effectively when the compliance level is low. Here comes the real benefit of CrossoverALF. This appliance family gives the clinician a great versatility to different treatment objectives and easy applicability and case management.

The new area in Dental Sleep Medicine
SleepSol Dental Sleep Device (The new passive-active generation of Dental Sleep Medicine)
CAD-CAM dental sleep device with unique biofunctional features
SDB, (Sleep Disorder Breathing) became like an epidemic. Sleep Apnea and sleep disorders affect millions of people worldwide. Chronic sleep disorder can cause many different chronic illnesses, so this is a very important topic in medicine. Sleep medicine is becoming more and more important in the treatment of many different diseases. According to the current literature Dental Sleep Appliance can make a significant positive effect in light and moderate sleep apnea. Intraoral sleep devices got popular in general, however, the ones that can really make a change and have predictable results are the individual (mostly 3D printed) dental sleep devices.

We are proud of SleepSol, which fulfills the requirements of modern MADs. This is extremely precise, very light and comfortable and very effective. After receiving the intra-oral scan we plan the best quality appliance for your patient.
The SleepSol course we teach how to take the bite and how to manage the case.
Certainly the most comfortable condition of sleeping if there is no appliance in the mouth. The reason we prescribe dental sleep appliances is because there is a sleep disorder. The aim is to protect the airway size during sleep. This protection can be passive and active.
From the comfort aspect the best appliance will be the lightest, the slimmest giving the tongue enough space and the one that gives maximum patient comfort at full occlusion. These requirements by only a fully digitally fabricated appliance will be met that gives a fully equilibrated occlusal surface.
MADs, or Dental Sleep Devices work by moving the mandible forward, consequently keeping the soft tissues far from each other preventing their collapse.
Is there any way that we can increase the effect? Yes, there is. This will be the formation of the vacuum particles of the oral cavity.
Professor Wilfried Engelke developed his BioFunctional Model that consists of the vacuum compartments that are technically the key to keep the airway size open. With SleepSol appliance we can easily assist our patients to produce and maintain the vacuum in the oral cavity.
Along with the SleepSol appliance we also give a LipLock vestibular trainer with which you can educate your patient how to develop the body awareness and improve tongue function during the day and night.
